Bill Gates once-again world’s richest

Microsoft creator Bill Gates is once again the world’s richest person, as an upsurge in Microsoft’s stock price pushed him beyond former number one Carlos Slim. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Gates is valued at $72.7 billion (an increase of 16%), while Slim is valued at $72.1 billion.
According to Bloomberg, “most of Gates’ fortune is held in Cascade Investment LLC, a holding entity through which he owns stakes in more than a dozen publicly traded companies and several closely held operations, including Four Seasons hotels and Corbis Corp. Less than a quarter of Gates’ fortune is held in Microsoft. He has donated $28 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.”
His return to the top spot was brought on by an increase of 28 percent of Microsoft’s share price this year, “buoyed by cost controls and sales of business and server software amid weak demand for personal computers running the new Windows 8 operating system.”
But not all his fortune rested on Microsoft, as Gates also saw an increase in the options he has with Canadian National Railway Co (CNR) and waste-collection company Republic Services Inc (RSG).
While Gates is number one in general, the world’s ten richest tech people are:
1. Bill Gates – $72.7-billion (Microsoft)
2. Larry Ellsion – $41.6-billion (Oracle)
3. Larry Page – $26.3-billion (Google)
4. Sergei Brin – $25.9-billion (Google)
5. Jeff Bezos – $24.7 (Amazon)
6. Steve Ballmer – $16.6-billion (Microsoft)
7. Paul Allen – $15.3-billion (Co-founder of Microsoft)
8. Michael Dell – $14.8-billion (Dell)
9. Mark Zuckerberg – $12.8-billion (Facebook)
10. Jim Goodnight – $12.5-billion (SAS Institute)
