The news comes from Bloomberg, who have spoken to three sources, that have said Elop intends to take Microsoft in a different direction if he becomes CEO
According to the Bloomberg report, Stephen Elop would make it a priority to gets Microsoft’s Office suite of apps, which include Word, Excel an PowerPoint on a wide range of devices and platforms, like Apple’s iOS platform.
The report says that Office would be used a way to drive demand for Microsoft’s Windows platform and also their Windows Phone platform, including their new Lumia Windows Phone unit which is being acquired from Nokia.
Elop will apparently also look at selling off some of Microsoft’s existing divisions, which would include their search engine Bing, and their Xbox division.
These sales would be considered if Elop decided that these divisions of Microsoft if he determines that they are not part of the companies strategy.
Of course there is no guarantee that Stephen Elop will get the job as Microsoft CEO, there are a number of other candidates on the shortlist and we will have to wait and see which one becomes the company’s new CEO.
