HTC One will receive Android KitKat in 90 days

HTC America president Jason Mackenzie said that the latest version of Android would be available in the US on all carriers in 90 days or less. He made the comments during an interview with Engadget.

Updates to the HTC One Max and the HTC One Mini will follow the update to the HTC One.

It is unclear if the UK will receive the update before or after the US. It could mean that UK owners may have to wait until March before getting their hands on Android 4.4, though we doubt that will be the case.

We’ve contacted HTC UK for clarification and will update this story when we hear back.

According to Mackenzie, the Google Play edition of the phone will receive the update in the next 15 days. Developers and unlocked versions of the phone should be able to download it before December.

Google took the wraps off its latest version of Android on yesterday. It also unveiled the much-rumoured and leaked Nexus 5.

According to Google, the latest version of its mobile operating system has a much lower memory requirement. This should mean that it runs just as well on low end phones, as it does on high end phones.

Google positioned it as a way to decrease operating system fragmentation. However, it does little to deal with the fragmentation of hundreds of different screen ratios and resolutions.

On Wednesday, Nike blamed the fragmentation of Android smartphones – and in particular, a lack of support for Bluetooth LE – as the reason it has not yet developed an Android version of its Fuel app.

Google has also said that the update will be coming to the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Samsung Galaxy S4 in the coming weeks.

Motorola also said that Android 4.4 will be coming to the Moto X, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini. However, the company did not provide a timeline.
